Jan. 1st, 2010 @ 07:05 am Excitement, sadness, angst, surprise, happyness... all in the last 8 hours
Posted on FA half an hour ago:

Never in my life have I been alone the moment the new year came, but that happened this year....

My flight landed at 8:30 yesterday, got back home at around 9:30... ate me some dinner. Watched some tv. Realized that of the 3 stations that I actually get reception for, the only one covering the new years was Telemundo.

Got tired, went to bad at around 11:40.

The timing wasn't on purpose but I was tired. About to fall asleep, phone rang at midnight. Ignored it and went on to sleep.

VERY sleepless night.

Now I'm up and about to go to work. My first time ever working in an ICU. I'm scared but excited too.

But I don't feel to cranky. I had a good holiday, and 2009 overall was awesome. Here's to a great 2010. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

--------------------------------------

UPDATE:

Remember this post I just posted?

http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1122884/

15 minutes afterwards it became completely wasted. I show up to the ICU all ready to go. I find one of the residents on call and I introduce myself and all that jazz. He asks me when I'm on call. I say Tuesday. He tells me to come back Monday a quarter to 7.

So now I'm back. Still scratching my head. Apparently I don't have work on weekends AND holidays unless I'm on call. Which is pretty damn awesome, meaning I have EIGHT days off this month, including two "golden weekends" including this weekend + getting New Years off!!!

I've had great luck with time off last year, and it continues. But this time I BLEW IT.

I didn't have to be alone last night. I didn't have to be angsty and completely apathetic about the new year. I coulda spent another 3 days in Texas, or at least gone to a New Years Party up here last night. I didn't have to go to bed early, get restless sleep, and wake up at 6 AM.

So I'm thinkin, now what?

Oh well I guess I'll play some video games. I'm too confused being mad at myself, yet happy at the same time...

I AM SO STUPID.

Happy new year, and all that.

What a spectacularly clear and crisp winter night - perfect for some moon-photography, and great way to kick-start one of my hazy new years resolutions: actually do something this year with my camera-kit!

I give you a so-called blue moon, a roughly once-every-three-years 'extra' full moon event:

For the curious, shot taken with a Canon 400D, and 70-200 F4 L lens at 200mm, F5.6 1/500 ISO100 on a Manfrotto tripod with remote release / mirror lock-up. Image cropped at full resolution, processed from RAW.

I'd love to try this another time with a longer lens, or even just an extender tube. Not bad for 200mm.

Dec. 31st, 2009 @ 01:21 am UBER EXPLOSIVE YEAR 2009 IN REVIEW!!! OMG!!!!!!
I'd actually posted this on FA 5 days ago, but figgured I'd wait til closer to the end of the year to put it hear....   hehe its already a lil outdated..  :)

-------

2009 was a big year for me. And it was a pretty damn good one too. I think it deserves a post dedicated to some of the highlights...

Setting the Stage - 2009 started off with me coasting through the end of med school, done with most my interviews, and VERY nervous about where I would be spending the next 4-6 years of my life.

Texas Road Trip - I've never really talked about it much, but the week I spent with marymouse  marymouse on the Texas road trip, including Furry Fiesta, was the best week I've had in a while. Something else I've never really talked about is the significance of how it convinced me not to be afraid of moving far away from home. Things very well could have turned out different otherwise...

Match Day - the most exciting single day for me was Match Day, the day I found out where I would be doing my residency. That very same day I got to hop on a plane and go to FWA to tell people the exciting news.

China Trip - the trip to China might be the most time I spent continuously alone with my parents in a long time. Something else I don't think I talk about too much is how much I love my parents and just how much they've supported me my whole life...

Doctor Uncle Jaggers - another set of exciting days... I became an uncle and a doctor all within a few days of each other. I happened to be at my sister's house the day it happened. And man was it exciting.

Farewell Tour - knowing that I only had a lil bit of time in Texas left, I set aside my usual reluctance to meet "local" furries outside the safety of a con. One of my regrets is not having met jesper-f  jesper-f earlier. My lil trip to Dallas to hang out with mongoose_ink  mongoose_ink and friends was an excellent Texas send-off.

The Move - my big move to an undisclosed location in the Midwest was thankfully uneventful. Quality alone time with my dad. Then mom flew up and they were HUGE helping me get settled.

Playing Doctor - then came my big first day of residency... then 5 straight painful months of Internal Medicine without a break. It sucked, but in retrospect its pretty awesome that I managed to trudge through it as well as I did. That people say that the hardest part of my residency is over is pretty encouraging... :)

Still Furry - admist the horrible schedule, I never forgot to be my stupid furry self. Its a minor miracle I still managed to go to AC, WPAFW, and MFF during this time. Adding in Furry Fiesta and MFF, this was actually the most cons I've ever been to in one year! Giving candy in fursuit on Halloween was awesome.

Time for Friends - leaving most my social support back at home was one of the scariest things about moving. But its also been refreshing to start new. Its been my pleasure to get to hang out with some of my best fuzzy friends in the "real life" setting. Much love to miguel-tigre  miguel-tigre, marymouse  marymouse, koldsteel  koldsteel, johnnytanuki  johnnytanuki, and frazzles626  frazzles626 *grab me some Frazzy toosh*

New Friends - I generally take my time to make friends, but there's plenty of you folks that I now consider a friend that I hardly knew a year ago. I won't list you out cause I know I'll forget someone, but you know who you are. Thank you for liking me... *hugs*

Family is Forever - getting to go back home to spend my Birthday, Thanksgiving, AND Christmas with family was epic. Who knows where I'll be in another 5 years. But its nice to know that they'll always be there for me, in one way or another... :)

Wrapping Things Up - 6 more days before its back to work. 2010 is gonna have a totally different flavor. They'll be plenty of goods, and plenty of lumps. But I'm not gonna worry bout that now. Just gonna relax. Eat alot. Sleep alot. And go see Avatar tomorrow. (It better be as good as you say, Frazzy!)

Or... how to make sure I block you the moment I see your face popping up on AIM:

- Message me in an appropriate way. Don't just say "Hi!" or "Are you there?". No, start right off with intimate remarks or comments about our long lasting friendship and stuff. Feel free to ignore the fact that we never met in real life.

- Don't just send one message. If I don't reply within 2 seconds, feel free to repeat the same line. Varying lines are also allowed, such as "Hi!" - "Hello!!" - "I know you're there!" - "I can hear you breathe!"

- Toss messages at me the moment I sign in. Yes, don't wait for at least 10 seconds, send them right away. You know, I only log on to serve you. Heck, I -live- to serve you. KEep me busy!

- Don't forget to ask "Are you there?". again if you don't get a response within 2 seconds. You know, I'm always sitting in front of my computer. Even on the loo.

- Don't bother>

- writing

- whole lines. It's

- actually very enter

- taining to have

- AIM go "Bling!!" 30 times

- in a row because you think the space bar and the enter key do the same job.

- Toss smileys in. They're paid for! Lots of sad faces encourage me to please you more.

- Remember? 2 second rule. "Are you there?"

- If you actually dare showing some common sense by asking "Are you busy", ignore the answer. Because I know, it's all about you.

- If the answer to questions like these are "Yes, I'm busy", you may want to go on asking "Oh, nice, what are you doing?". Obviously, being busy doesn't neccessarily mean I cannot talk about the reasons for being busy. Meanwhile, the work finishes itself. It's magic!

- And since I can't stress it often enough: Remember the 2 second rule.

Disclaimer: I've collected annoyances for one year before making this posting. It's not aimed at anyone in particular.

Current Mood: exhausted
Was meant to be going out today to Skegness, meeting the rest of the family but I feel too ill, so I've been left in the house on my own while everyone else have gone. I feel absolutly awful- I was up half the night coughing my lungs up, and this is probably the worst sore throat I've ever had, not to mention the rest of my body. Though admittedly I don't really know if I want to go to the seaside at the end of December anyway, though I would have enjoyed the fish & chips (though it's not like I feel like eating anything right now...). Though admittedly I am in my element with "Every Number 1 of the 90s" showing on Magic, after watching the 80s one on Sunday, then they have the 00s tomorrow! Yes, I'm sad ;-) The biggest problem with watching it is every ad break they seem to be showing a trailer for Celebrity Big Brother (urgh) and that prick Tim Westwood...

Emily Whitehurst (agent.M) from The Action Design and Tsunami Bomb. Just, WOW!

That's her again in Tsunami Bomb. She's pretty.

Spunge, from the good old days of P-ROCK.TV. Yup!

Awww, Christmas number 1, 2009..

Rhys got me in to Rage in '93. Cannot believe they made Christmas number 1 sixteen years later... I'm not on spacebook, so thanks Kerry.....

4ft Fingers. A drunken night in Maryport several years ago rings a bell. Love these guys.

This was my college anthem. Saw them at the Sands in Carlisle. I forgot how good they were... A little weak for my taste nowadays...

The Offspring. Glasgow 2001.. We fought through the snow.. Was well worth it...

The support:-

AFI........ Need I say more? They actually kicked The Offsprings ass in Glasgow.

Goldblade... A drunken night in Monroes, Workington... The guy is ripped...

*start my obsession with Henry Rollins*
Saw the band in Whitehaven, touring with Queen Adreena. Spoken word in Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

CKY in Glasgow's Cathouse, 2003? An awesome gig. The whole crew turned up, not just the band. Fucking awesome. Raab Himself just rocked out drinking beers up on the balcony. Chad climbed the Marshall Stack onto the balcony to drink with him during the break....
